Along with our coaches, the Wombats rely entirely on our parents to run the team. Plan on signing up to volunteer at most meets your child is competing in! A brief description of each of the positions is below so that you can determine which is the best fit for you. Send your choice to email@example.com or use the contact form below. The Wombat team reps are more than happy to provide further information!
For positions that require training (*), details can be found on the MCSL website
DAY OF MEET JOBS (most jobs are shared so you won't work every meet)
For the parent that can take charge! Responsible for all the technical decisions made at a meet. Briefs the Stroke and Turn officials, gives any instructions needed, and has a strong knowledge of all the MCSL rules.
STROKE AND TURN OFFICIAL*
Perfect for the parent who wants to learn more about swimming or simply doesn't want to make small talk at meets. Ensure that the rules relating to the stroke, turn, kick, and finish designated for the event are being observed. NOTE: We have consistently had enough volunteers that our officials only work ½ the meet. Please help us keep it that way.
Best view in the house! The Starter assures a fair start, conducts a timely meet, and acts as take off judge.
A fit for everyone. Operate stop watches, record times (3 timers needed/lane). The head timer also conducts the timers briefing, which is detailed in the MCSL Officials guide.
The voice of the Wombats! Great for the extrovert who is game for practicing his or her DJ skills. In charge of any warm-up announcements and relaying other pertinent meet information. Announces each event, half-time and final scores, all-star qualifying times and pool/team records.
CLERK OF COURSE
Get to know everyone on the team, and free Heat Sheet included! Identify the swimmers, tell them their lanes, and assign them to wait in the designated area until it is time to report to the starting area.
For those parents who want to get some steps in during the meet. Collect the completed time sheets from the timers and any DQ cards after the end of each event and bring them to the automation table.
A fit for anyone who wants to support the team. Before the season starts, coordinate with the team reps to select the B meet ribbons (A ribbons come from MCSL). Maintain the ribbon boxes and inventory (pens, scissors, etc). Label the ribbons during the meet in coordination with automation.
BANQUET COMMITTEE MEMBER
Anyone that likes to organize while still having a fun time. Meet with committee chairs and help to plan the end-of-season event. Contact the banquet chairperson if interested or use the contact form below.
FRIDAY NIGHT TEAM DINNER COMMITTEE
Calling all food lovers! Plan the weekly theme, set-up/send out sign up genius, oversee the set-up and take-down.
Help keep the cost of swim team low by engaging with the previous year's sponsors commitment to the Wildwood Wombats at the Gold, Silver, or Bronze levels; seek out new sponsorship opportunities (remember that our pool members and neighborhood businesses are our best opportunities); work with team reps to keep the website and printed materials updated with sponsor logos.
If you have younger kids, this is the job for you. As the pre-team representative, the minnows rep is the point person responsible for communicating with parents and coaches and organizing volunteers for the one meet at the end of the season, and will organize an end of the season celebration at the last practice.
